VA Loan Eligibility Requirements for Nevada Veterans

Basic service requirements to qualify for a VA Certificate of Eligibility

Active Duty & Veterans

Active Duty Service Members

You're eligible after 90 consecutive days of active service (or less if discharged for service-connected disability).

Veterans

  • Wartime: 90 days of active service (WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War, etc.)
  • Peacetime: 181 days of continuous active service
  • Post-9/11: 90 aggregate days (can be non-consecutive)

Discharge Status

Must have been discharged under conditions other than dishonorable. General, Honorable, and Medical discharges typically qualify.

National Guard & Reserves

National Guard Members

Served 6 years in the National Guard (must have honorable discharge). Title 32 full-time National Guard duty also qualifies.

Selected Reserve Members

Completed 6 years in the Selected Reserve and received an honorable discharge. Those retired from Reserve with 20+ years also qualify.

Active Duty for Training

Completed 90 days of active duty for training under Title 10 or Title 32, or were discharged due to service-connected disability.

Surviving Spouses

Surviving spouses may be eligible if they meet one of these conditions:

Spouse of veteran who died in service or from service-connected disability

Surviving spouse who has not remarried (or remarried after age 57)

Spouse of servicemember missing in action or POW for 90+ days

Surviving spouse receiving Dependency and Indemnity Compensation

Documents You'll Need for Your COE

Active Duty / Veterans:

  • DD Form 214 (Certificate of Release or Discharge)
  • Statement of Service (if still active duty)

National Guard / Reserves:

  • NGB Form 22 (National Guard Report of Separation)
  • DD Form 214 if applicable
